The dump truck week

This week (and yes, I know it's only Tuesday, which doesn't bode at all well for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) has been a complete mess. Nothing is going right, and everything seems to be going wrong!

Now, usually I'm Little Janet Sunshine. I really love life and laughter comes naturally to me. But not this week.

A lot of it I'm to blame for. I'm not perfect. But it seems like a whole lot of stuff the world had been saving up finally landed on me this week, like some cosmic dump truck has backed up to my door, raised its box, and deposited its payload. My credit card payment got lost. One of my kids has been sick. I can't find the sack of socks I bought--12 pairs of them!

It goes on and on, some things petty, some things life-changing.

And to top it all off, they moved BOSTON LEGAL to Wednesday night. Why? What was wrong with Tuesday? It didn't have a W in it?

A friend and I have standing Wednesday night plans. Church and then dinner and talktalktalk. But now it'll have to be church and dinner and talkwithourmouthsfull because we're both BL fans and have to be home by 9:00.

Sigh.

Maybe by 10:00 tomorrow night I'll be more cheerful, having spent an hour watching James Spader. It always does improve my spirits....

Janet,
I hope James was able to work his magic. And I feel your pain. It seems as if sometimes we are pushing hard forward to gain absolutely no ground and as if there is some force saying "Okay, let's see how much she can stand."

When I was in England my girlfriends and I would joke that the big stuff was easy to handle, but it was the piling on of all the little stuff that would break us. If any one of those little things would not exist or would go away, we just knew that it wouldn't be so hard...but there you go. They never go away and somehow even more gets piled on.

So enjoy your trash tv, your wine, your snow food and realize that the only alternative is death...and while there may be times that sleeping for about that long may seem appealing;) there isn't any choice but to "put on our big girl panties and deal."

I love ya cosmic sister. And I feel you too. My hubby finally took two days off. We were going to have quality you and me time...BUT...Mai's got pink-eye now and I've got two students who plagiarized their final assignment...as I like to say "the moon's are out of alignment...let's get it a chiropractor;)"

Dump truck weeks suck!

I would leave a peppy, "just-shift-your-perspective" response, but with 4 classes ending this week and another 4 ending next week, I'm feeling a little dumped on myself.

Janet: Sorry you're having a rough week, sweetie. And doesn't it just add insult to injury when they move your show, too??? They move Men in Trees around so much that L. and I just started watching it online over the weekend. Soooo much nicer to be able to watch my show when I want to watch it. Maybe you need TiVo? ;)

Lisa: I'm up to 4 plagiarizers so far, and I haven't started my online grading yet. Still, percentage-wise, you have me: 2/40 is .05%, and 4/187 is .02%. I obviously need to put up better numbers. ;)

No--for me, it's been the students who disappeared sometime around spring break who are suddenly coming out of the woodwork. "Mrs. J.: I just checked the gradebook for the class that ENDED LAST FRIDAY and realized that you didn't receive any of my work after Feb. 27! I'm submitting all twelve assignments now..."

Huh. As if.

I have a saying I got from Wild Words from Wild Women. It goes something like this, "I try to take one day at a time but sometimes several of them gang up on me all at once."

And really, in the grand scheme of things, 12 pairs of socks eventually become three or four that don't really match. Stop stressing the socks and just go buy 12 more pair. Then when the other 12 show up you'll actually be able to put together, what? two pair? LOL

UPDATE: One hour of James Spader is never enough, but it sure beats no hours of James Spader. Wait! Oh no! What's this I hear? Not next week? No Boston Legal next week? Luckily I have the DVDs....

"The happiness of most people is not ruined by great catastrophes or fatal errors, but by the repetition of slowly destructive little things." That's a quote from Ernest Dimnet I've had in my office for years. I loved it then and I love it now. But I've been so concerned with the Great Catastrophes of my life that I've let the "slowly destructive little things" slide by until they've piled up. Time to be a bit more alert. Time to take a little more time for myself.

Sandi's sock wisdom is well-taken, and I love the chick dearly, but it still won't stop me from tearing the place apart looking for those socks!

And, of course, as I've been tearing things apart, I'm finding old stray socks, so I'm actually okay on the sock count.

Love and sox to you all!

I hope little miss Janet sunshine is back soon and the dump truck goes away. I'm not sure how it managed to be at both of our houses at once. Oh well, here's to a better one next week!
